The Round Stack
There are a variety of wood stoves that are available on the market today. Whether you are looking for a stove that will add an earthy, rustic look to your home, or one that is more contemporary and modern, there is bound to be a stove that will meet your requirements. Modern stoves are not only attractive, but also more efficient than traditional heating methods.
Proper stacking of logs is crucial when preparing them for burning in a stove. This will ensure that they stay dry and ready to burn. Leaving space between the logs and separating their ends open also allows for airflow, which is essential to ensure that your wood drys efficiently. The logs can also be dried and preserved by storing them in tarps, or other structures.
The round stack method of stacking firewood is a well-known method that is easy to master and looks stunning. Create a base by spreading out three to four rows of treated 2x4s or pallets. Then, build a stack of end pillars on top of the base by laying 3-4 pieces of wood on top of each other, and then putting another piece on the opposite side, with more space at each end. Continue to build these pillars up to 12 rows, making sure that there is plenty of space between each of them for air to flow through the pile.
Then use a center stake to keep the stack straight and start adding perpendicular pieces to the edges of the stack, and then tie them together in the middle with string. Repeat this process until the desired height for your wall. Then, you can complete the interior with odd-looking pieces and any pieces that are too big for the outer rows. It is essential to keep in mind that indoor stacking requires a room that has plenty of light and airflow, as overcrowding a stack can lead to moldy and damp wood. The best indoor stacking space is typically an unfinished basement or garage.
The Short Penguin Eco
The Short Penguin Eco by Chilli Penguin is a great example of a wood burner that is environmentally friendly. It has an oven which allows you to cook food on it or boil water to make a hot beverage.
The stove is equipped with three clean burn features that produce low emissions and more than 80% efficiency. The stove utilizes secondary heat retention glazing, combustion jets and airflow diversion. The result is an efficient stove that can also be used in smoke-control zones.
This stove is the smallest of the domestic range. It can be mounted on a wall with a plinth, or a log store. The design is sleek and contemporary, with stainless steel handles. This is a stove you'll be content to return home to.
Another great way to reduce your carbon footprint is to use kiln-dried or seasoned wood. This kind of wood has been dried to less than 20% moisture, which reduces the amount of smoke it releases when it's burned. It is important to keep in mind that even with a very efficient wood burning stove, you could still generate an enormous amount of carbon dioxide if you aren't careful.
